VERSE DESCRIPTION. The miracle child of Thomas and Martha Wayne, it was a shock to both parents that the unexpected pregnancy was even possibe. Martha was told that she couldn’t concieve another child due to complications during Bruce’s delivery, and was thrilled by the news. The fateful night of the opera, Maddie was only nine months old, and has no clear memory of her parents. It remains one of her biggest regrets, and is the stem of her fear of abandonment that carried into adulthood. She was raised primarily by Alfred Pennyworth, the loyal family butler, her brother Bruce, and his childhood friend Rachel Dawes.

VERSE DESCRIPTION. Growing up, she looked up to Bruce as her older brother and protector, and was devastated when he left for college, feeling abandoned all over again. Even when he would visit, and the visits were not frequent, he seemed distant and removed. When he disappeared after Joe Chill’s trial, her life was shattered. She clung to Alfred and Rachel, who became her surrogate sibling, and wished for the day that her brother would return. He reappeared when she was a Senior in high school, getting ready to graduate with dreams of becoming a doctor. It’s hard for Maddie to completely trust Bruce, but eventually when he puts down roots in the community again, she feels secure that he is there to stay. Her worry and overprotection for him is always there, and vice versa - yet Bruce’s methods are more extreme - but are amplified after the discovery of his other identity: The Batman. (I often add BatFam to this verse which includes Terry McGinnis, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, and Dick Grayson. They would have been in and out of the manor during Maddie’s childhood and she would consider them her brothers - meaning Bruce would have never left for those eight years in Begins.)

VERSE DESCRIPTION. Maddie is studying at Gotham University, getting ready to apply to med school, and eventually volunteers and then interns at Gotham General. She has accepted the revelation that Bruce is Batman and often helps him (and BatFam if they’re involved in the verse) with medical emergencies. She also finds time to do volunteer work at orphanages, boys homes, and runs charities that peak her interest. She represents Bruce and Wayne Enterprises at a lot of the galas, and quickly becomes a known socialite figure around Gotham. The high exposure and the fact that Maddie rents a penthouse at the edge of the Narrows near the University bothers Bruce, thinking that her being known publicly could open her up to attempted kidnappings or worse is only the start of the problems between the siblings. But despite his objections, she desperately tries to live life on her own terms. Bruce and Alfred usually find a way to intervene, but she usually gets what she wants in the end.

after the storm

VERSE DESCRIPTION. Maddie has started med school and is regularly volunteering at Gotham General, the boys home, and running charity functions. However, her life is turned upside down during the bombing of Gotham General orchestrated by the Joker. When he points a gun at one of the children, Maddie takes the bullet for them and is tied up in one of the janitorial closets almost bleeding to death. She is eventually found and saved, but the trauma leaves her with crippling PTSD symptoms (i.e. afraid to leave her apartment, sensitive to loud noises and sudden movement, her fear of gun is amplified, ect.) She starts keeping weapons close by which include pepper spray, a stun gun, and several bats in her apartment. Her demeanor becomes more hostile and defensive as opposed to sweet and caring (those are still qualities that she has, but they’re harder to see now). Bruce recognizes the newfound anger in her and tries to help, but her distrust of him causes her to reject his offers.

VERSE DESCRIPTION. Maddie is a respected doctor and active philanthropost, well known throughout Gotham and surrounding cities. Bruce is a constant concern and she and Alfred are two of the only people who have seen or interacted with him over the past several years. When Bane attacks Gotham and Bruce goes back into circulation as Batman, her life is put into a tailspin yet again as the city begins to fall apart piece by piece.

VERSE DESCRIPTION. After a long awaited promotion, Maddie is made head of pediatrics at Gotham General. Aside from the occasional media attention, she has moved away from the life of a socialite, craving a life of normalcy. Her love life is much to be desired because of the busy workload, but during this time, she’s much more receptive to meeting someone and settling down.

VERSE DESCRIPTION. Follows the storyline of the animated series Batman Beyond with Terry McGinnis stepping into Bruce’s shoes as the new Batman. Maddie has a busy life running the pediatrics wing and has to deal with the ruin that has become of her relationship with a much older and wearier Bruce.

VERSE DESCRIPTION. Madolyn is the oldest daughter of Thomas and Martha Wayne. After behavioral problems caused the family too much chaos, Maddie was sent to an elite boarding school in Europe at the age of fourteen - which was Thomas’ idea. The decision created a rift betnween them and their relationship was never the same. She returns to Gotham permantently four years later when her parents are found murdered, the only witness being her younger brother, Bruce. Angry and dead set on revenge, Maddie does everything in her power to find the people responsible.
